Overview of Program

 

Purpose Statement

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR), in cooperation with Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, is offering a Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) pharmacy residency designed to advance the practice of post graduate pharmacists.  The PGY-1 pharmacy residency is a twelve-month program designed to train residents in a comprehensive clinical environment.  Residents will develop their pharmacy knowledge and skills in direct patient care in acute and ambulatory care settings, teaching and research.  At the completion of the program, the resident will be prepared to serve as a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions.  Residents will also be eligible for board certification in pharmacotherapy and for postgraduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.

 

Structure

Our program is a 12 month post graduate curriculum that offers training opportunities in acute care, ambulatory care, drug information, drug use policy development, clinical services and pharmacy leadership.

The program is designed to develop the following competencies:

  • Teaching, Education, and Dissemination of Knowledge
  • Pharmacy Research

 

The residency is designed to offer an individualized training plan for each resident based on their interests, goals and past experiences.  Residents will be required to complete core rotations in order to build a strong knowledge base and have the opportunity to select elective rotations in different fields of interest.

    • Family Medicine
    • Internal Medicine
  • Critical Care
  • Cardiology
  • Neurology
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Pediatrics
  • Hospital Administration

 

Electives:

  • Infectious Disease
  • Transplant Medicine
  • Clinical Informatics
  • Any or the required rotations may be repeated once

 

Longitudinal Experiences: regularly scheduled experience for a quarter, 6 months or 12 months
